Regular Programming

At The Track

It kinda felt like …..
…. we were back to regular programming today at the track in Dunedin as over 100 athletes turned out for the Otago interclub meeting. With the Classic Series being on around the country recently, a number of athletes have been away competing at other events but with those now complete, the numbers have returned.

The sun was out, it was warm,  there were plenty of athletes and very little wind which made it a pretty nice afternoon to be at the track.

If you’re after the results from today’s athletic meeting then here’s where you can find them once they’re posted. Checkout all the athletics results here.

Inside Sutton Railway Station

I Mark’d Where It Stood

This is the inside of the Sutton Railway Station and yes, there are only two rooms. I went in search of information about the small station and came across a piece that I thought this was so interesting when I read it I had to share it:
“Etched into the timber weatherboards of the station are the names and initials of soldiers from the area who served in the First World War, carved as they left for the front. Among these are the initials of Arthur Charles Peat, a member of the Otago Infantry Battalion, who left Sutton in late 1914 with other local men. Arthur never returned to Sutton. He was killed in action at Gallipoli in August 1915.”

Competition – Give Away

I decided it’s time to give away some art. I’ve got this lovely 18 x 12 inch print of Dunedin’s historical home, Olveston to give away.  It’s mounted, framed, finished with glass  and has a value of $400. The great thing is that it’s all ready to be hung and an enjoyed in your home, office, flat, or wherever you desire.

Gold Miners Cottage In Alexandra

Bygone Dreams of Another Moment

The curiosity in me really wants to see what it’s like inside this old cottage, I look at it every time I drive past it. However, as it’s on farmland, I’ll have to keep wandering until I get permission.

Tautuku Bay Sunrise

And This We Rightly Know

I had this whole beach to myself and it was quite an airy feeling to be strolling along the beach in the darkness. I hadn’t seen another person or vehicle since I left the camp site and once reaching the beach, there certainly wasn’t a shortage of location options to see the sun coming up.

Kapiti Island with Cloud

There Are Reasons You Should Stay.

The whole reason for the crop on this image of Kapiti Island is to get that wee patch of orange/red cloud and it’s reflection in. Initially I cropped it with a 12:5 ratio (or close to it) but the more I looked at it, the more I realised that I really liked what that wee patch of cloud added to the final image.

Mixed Grill

Quiet

By the time 1:00pm rolled around.
I really didn’t think we would get any sport in today with how the morning was. Sure, I knew the weather forecast said it was meant to clear but up until around 11:00am the sky looked along way from clearing. However, by the time 1:00pm rolled around the rain had past and it turned out the met service were right after all.

If today was  on a menu it would probably be called a mixed grill with rain this morning, fine spells in the afternoon for some athletics, a decent swell at the beach for those who were searching for some waves and fairly clear evening.

If you’re after the results from today’s athletic meeting then here’s where you can find them once they’re posted. Checkout all the athletics results here.

Inside The Vulcan Hotel

Leave a comment and win.

I’ve currently got a competition running, here’s how you can enter.

That you are here.

I stayed here one night and almost had the place to myself. I’m not sure what I would have done if it was busy. It was the perfect spot to process a few photos over a pint or two of Speight’s. Apart from a Grandfather and Grandson at the end of the bar happily sharing tales about fish and a lady in the dinning room, it was a very quiet night. They certainly didn’t might me setting up my camera for a photo before the landlady told us about the local ghost.

Lake Wanaka At Dusk

In The Evening I Went.

There are so many places, spots and locations to visit to enjoy the landscapes around Wanaka. Of course there are the usual spots of Roys Peak and ‘That Wanaka Tree’ however there are so many other spots and scenes around the area it’s sometimes hard to know where to start when choosing a location to shoot from. The thing I like about this photo is that there was a good twelve to fifteen people around me and every single person was focused on photographing ‘That Wanaka Tree’ while no-one noticed how wonderful the lake or the surrounding hills had been light in colours and silhouettes.
