Football: Chatham Cup

The draw for the Chatham Cup and Kate Sheppard Cup have taken place with the fixtures taking place on the weekend of 3-4 August for the Chatham Cup while the semi-finals of the Kate Sheppard Cup will be held on 24-25 August.

The match details are yet to be confirmed, but Dunedin’s Caversham  AFC will be at home and will host Auckland’s Bay Olympic on the weekend of the 3-4 August. The match will  be the only quarter final played in the South Island and will no doubt be a strong test for Caversham’s young squad.

The representative season gets underway this weekend with Otago defending the Ranfurly Shield against Thames Valley in Wanaka before Otago travels to Oamaru to play North Otago in the second shield defence of the season on Friday 26th July.

Football: Chatham Cup

Caversham defeated Roslyn Wakari 3-2 in extra-time to win the fourth round Chatham Cup match played at Ellis Park in Dunedin yesterday. With the scores locked at 2 all after 90 minutes, the match went into extra time with Caversham’s Kaleb de Groot-Green scoring the match winner to put his side a head 3-2 and into the national quarter final draw.

It was Kaleb de Groot-Green who got Caversham on the board early after 9 minutes slotting a goal from a corner before team mate Conner Neil extended the lead to two nil 12 minutes later for the Caversham side. Roslyn ensured they were on the board before halftime however as Luke Clissold slotted a goal to make the score 2-1 at halftime. In the second half, it was Nathan Wilkie who got the equaliser for Roslyn on the 57 minute mark, which is were the scores stood until full time.

With 7 minutes to go in extra-time Kaleb de Groot-Green scored for the Caversham side, slotting his second for the match to grad Caversham a 3 -2 win.
