The Oddity

Walked under painted lights.

This is the most intriguing shop window, I can’t help but look at it every time I go past. I think it’s at it’s best during winter when it’s dark in the morning and evening and it’s all lit up. There’s something magical and curious about it or maybe it’s the fact that it looks really interesting.

Te Aho a Māui

Let The Beginning Connect Us

Mist can be such a cool effect, especially if you’re lucky enough to find it hanging around in a city. This is the Wellington waterfront one morning as low thick mist covered almost everything until the day warmed up. I found this sculpture by Rewi Thompson  that was partially covered in the mist and it had this cool stone, tile effect surrounding it.

Evening on McCallum Road

Believe it when you stop.

This is a road that I drive past every day on my way to work. It’s between Waikouaiti and Palmerston and I always wondered what was down it. One evening at sunset I detoured along it and found this interesting farm gate that included an old wooden fence, wagon wheels and it was surrounded by mud. Needless to say, I didn’t venture any further.

Palmerston Fields Of Yellow

With Silent Delight

These fields of rapeseed often become a local attraction wen the plants flower and huge fields turn into a sea of yellow. When you see it on a nice summer day with green surrounds it really does become a wonder of colour.
This composition took longer to find than I thought it would. The tricky balance was getting the right amount of yellow and green at the front, while not leaving the rest of the image to tight. The clouds also brought another dimension to the image.

Poolburn

A Silent Invisible Traveller Did Come By

Getting to Poolburn is an adventurous drive up the Old Dunstan Road that twists and turns through part of the Ida Valley. Once you get there, it’s like an Oasis or a well-kept secret with the old huts scattered around a marvellous lake.

Paraparaumu Beach Awesomeness

The Earth and The Sky Shout For Joy.

Paraparaumu Beach on the Kapiti Coast is an awesome place to get some wicked sunsets. The fact that Kapiti Island is directly off shore means that there is a different element to play with in the composition if nothing is very interesting on the beach. However, don’t you love these tyre tracks!

If photography isn’t your thing, it’s also a great walking beach and goes on for miles meaning you can have an evening stroll while watching the sunset and the sand between your toes.

The Streets Of Melbourne

First Of All We Have Colour

I came across this lady who does the most colourful designs with vinyl records. I watched and chatted to her for about 10 minutes as she created new designs. The cool thing was she was doing them right there on the spot so you could see it evolve right before your eyes. How neat is that!

Shag Point Sunrise

To Seek Such A Time

This a one of many wonderful East Otago sunrises I’ve caught over the years however I don’t always get to this location in the morning. It’s called Shag Point and it’s home to a large Fur Seal colony and also penguins if you’re lucky enough to spot them. Once you finish at Shag Point you can then call into the Moeraki Boulders which is just up the road.
